Just a fun piece for the next issue of a friends indie zine. I haven't done an illustration using Illustrator for some time so it was fun to get back into vector work :)

Free Illustration

Two days ago I was contacted about being an illustrator on a children's book ages 3-5. YIPPIE! I was sent a small brief and was asked if I could come up with something. Below was my submission...done for free.

They told me they went with another illustrator. there goes 5 hours I'll never get back! I told them to contact me again int he future if they have a book that is more inline with my work. hopefully it won't be in vain.

Salesman Pete Completed!

Finally completed the background for this! Kept the cityscape simpler than I originally started but i didn't want to take away from the characters. Also after seeing a wall hang for a new animation by the Salesman Pete/meet Buck crew I decided to flip the orientation and it worked SOOOO much better. Enjoy :)

Now I need to product a non fan art of this quality for my portfolio...

Bouncing ball

Just a quick little bouncing ball with a mind of it's own :) Busted it out in about 15min just rough to start to learn my stretch and squash. New it's to refine, apply to character/objects other than a ball, and master....simple right?

Jack getting better

It's getting there.
I'm thinking I am making him too realistic not cartoonish enough. I am learning a lot though and that's what this is about.

Jack model WIP

So I've spent the last two days watching tutorials online for the modeling program Blender. It's free and will introduce me to polygon modeling which is TOTALLY different than surface modeling which is what I've done forthe past 5 years. It's driving me fucking NUTS!!!
That is what I was able to get done today, it's a good start but there are some weird surfaces and he kinda has a monkey mouth, hahaha. Needless to say I have learned very little and it's going painfully slow.

Here's to my next attempt!

Citroen Bijou Sketch

So now that I am going into animation...I need to begin to draw things I previously refused to such as cars. Some may find this surprising seeing that every Industrial Designer and their mother loves to draw cars, but not Jeff. Well I do LOVE old cars. So I decided to draw probably my favorite vintage car, the Citroen Bijou in the the style of on of my favorite artists, Willie Real.
Sketched with a colored pencil then inked with my brush pen. I am still learning how to use that freaking thing! I can't seem to get the flow right so my lines are, how about we go with "textured" :)

P.S. I just got a new medium tone sketchpad and I've been having lots of fun with it including a Chew fanart and a fanart of an Indiana Jones fanart I just bought the original of! I will post shortly.

Salesman Pete WIP deux.

Here's the bad guy and his vacuum. It's coming together now I just need to create a background that I haven't thought about...

I'm not 100% happy with the sleeve tattoo yet and I may rework it after I complete a background...I'll see.

Saleman Pete WIP

So my newest fan art is underway. I've reworked the comp so many times but I finally found one I'm happy with. This is going to take me a looooooong time. But now that I have the time to dedicate I have been so happy with my recent work. The sketch and color so far has been at least 10 hrs cause I am slow and experimenting. Please enjoy and check back for the final.

For those of you, I'll assume most, who don't know Salesman Pete here you go.Freaking amazing.

My NEW new desktop

Man I am on a fan art roll!!! It's probably all this unemployment that's giving me the time to actually spend on the pieces I've had in my head for awhile. I was really excited about this one so I did it today in one sitting O_O probably took me about 10-12 hours from sketch to completion. Phew! I need to work on my speed.Hope you enjoy this, it should bring back memories to any of you 90's kids out there.

The update

So I am much happier with this one and now I have a new desktop. Sorry Sylvia!
It's more hectic but I got Captain K'nuckles in there and a big ol' pile of candy as well.

Fan art time

So I've been trying to find a good The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack wallpaper for months now and I couldn't find anything I liked. So I decided to create my own :) Hope you all enjoy.
After seeing it on my computer I felt the composition just wasn't working...Bubbie and Flapjack are both facing in the same direction, there's no overlap, and it is too symmetrical. Here's a quick edit I did but it's too late now so tomorrow I will fix it and re-post. And maybe add Captain K'nuckles....

Apartment partaaaaaay

Just had out apartment warming party tonight. It was a blast! Looooong day of cooking/cleaning but Linda and I always enjoy hosting parties :)Now please enjoy some tasty photos of the food I cooked for the party:)

Spinach and artichoke dip, with parmesan, mozzarella, and cream cheeses. My friend SillySylvie is from Cincinnati and brought over some Skyline chili so we turned it into a pizza. Nom, nom.
French bread with cream cheese, fresh dill, capers, and smoked salmon.
Spaghetti with home made white wine sauce along with some home made meatballs rolled by hand with love :).
French bread with garlic, olive oil, buffalo mozzarella, tomato, fresh basil, and prosciutto. These went FAST!

The missing dishes not shown because we were too busy eating were two more pizzas. One was a simple mushroom and cheese for my friend Alex. The second was a margarita pizza cause it's my fav :). Sauce was home made but I was too busy to make my own dough again. Next time peeps!

Henri Toulouse Lautrec & Burlesque dancers

Last night Linda, Sarah, and I went to the Henri Toulouse Lautrec exhibit at the High Art museum.
We showed up on a beautiful foggy night
When we first arrived there was about an hour until the burlesque show so we checked out this...interesting band. To me it was literally just noise, screaming, and feedback but hey some people are into that.
The whole Museum was themed vintage french for the event. Here's Linda and Sarah sitting down in the lounge next to the concert stage.
The burlesque show was okay. I am too short and people wouldn't let me to the front to take pictures so this one was blind as I held my camera over my head. hahah.
After the show there was a 45min clothed figure drawing session. I actually preferred this more even though my drawings didn't come out very good.
Finally the main event! They had these "actors" walking around themed that would interact with you. Here are some photos of the girls and the accordion guy. :)
It was so cool to see these pieces in person, I'm totally psyched Sarah clued us into this event.
And my kick!
Ciao people.

I'm free!

Free of overbearing workloads, stressful meetings, impossible deadlines, incompetence, depression, and hypertension. I did sacrifice a shitty salary but it's been worth it! My mental and physical health is much more important than a paycheck; for now at least :)

Here are some photos of my last day of work celebration. We went to Top Flr in downtown ATL. They have THE best macaroni ever! i know it sounds silly but seriously that shit is AMAZING!
Here's the whole gang hanging outside after we ate. Jim is mysteriously missing i think he's one of the blurs walking in the back.
During my time in between work and school I am going to spoil myself and actually enjoy life with my wife :) I've turned my portfolio into SCAD and I'm waiting to see how much money I can get. I am also going to to take this time to continue life drawing, from life drawing, and begin teaching myself Maya!

More nudies

Figure drawing again :)

To help with my confidence I sketched with a brush pen tonight. This was scary at first because once that line went down there was no going back..but in the end I loved the gestures I was getting. So shout out to my friend Sarah who gave me the brush pen!

Face Shape Excercise

So part of my portfolio will be character design. Below is an exercises where I took a simple shape and created a character from it. I had fun with the theme :) Enjoy.
