f u with a smile

A new venture I'm looking to take where I will create little comic strips about stuff that happens in my life. This is a way for me to try and laugh about some of the stressful shit going on and appreciate all the funny things as well. How am I going to create little comic strips when I can barely post to this blog?
...I don't know but hell, I'm going to try!

Website Banner Progress

Shit is going down so I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on this cause I spent all weekend at work :(

This is the first pass of the vector art. I still have to add some background detail to the pin up paper and the books, stuff like that. Also the colors are arbitrarily chosen so I will go back and fine tune that to make it look all nice :)

Website Banners

Some concept sketches for a friends website. I did the original illustrations for her and she's doing a relaunch :) She liked the old ones enough to ask me to do the new designs as well so yay!

Comic book is back...

So for now I am inspired to reboot my comic book...that was never really started.

I've been reading The Walking Dead so I'm up to speed before the show starts this month and it is effing AMAZING! Anyways below are my refined character pencil sketches w/ color in
PS and then some thumbnails I did about a year ago for some panels....I think Adrian still needs work; he's supposed to be kinda emo but now he's freaking EMO. I will rework him but I am very happy with Piper :)

I blocked out the words to not spoil the story :)

Evelyn Evelyn

Introduced to me by Linda...check it out.
Just a rough sketch in my new sketchbook given as a gift to me from our intern after his trip to China. Thanks man. :)

All of my characters look the same...guess that's why I'm not an illustrator hahaha

Hit Girl Flats

Hit girl fan piece is coming along slowly...all the flats are completed I just need to add some cell shading to it. :)A detail shot for you...Here's the panel that I'm using from the comic.

What painting is it this week?

Another one of those children's paintings....this time it's far more playful..here's the actual paintingI saw a Dōmo-kun then Linda pointed out that the character in the painting is a cyclops...so now it's a cyclops Dōmo.So I did this digital sketch right after my meeting...I'll go back and add color sometime.

Little children are creepy...

Or maybe I'm the sick oneWe have this meeting room in the office where on the wall is about 20 or so small paintings done by local elementary school students. One of these paintings freaks me right the fuck out! So in today's meeting I decided to interpret what I see in the painting. Lucky for the parents of the child it's probably just a little girl playing in a field of dandelions...but I see a scary blue skinned zombie girl.

Upon closer examination it seems sitting across the table from the painting was confusing. Turns out is a dinosaur in front of a lake...hahah I am the sicko

Zombunny...

Finished... Just can't get motivated to really make a piece over a year old good. I stopped because I didn't like it much. Maybe time for a new one. I'll see.

Zombunny Returns

Most of you wont know but I went on this little kick where I was doing these little illustrations each day of this zombie bunny. I did it just for fun and would keep each piece under an hour.

Anyways, my friend and coworker Matt finally finished a fan art of my zombunny about a year or so after I stopped drawing him, haha.

But anyways, it is a sweet piece and I think the first fan art of my work so thanks. It also got me missing the undead rabbit so I went back and saw that I had an unfinished illustration, one that I was doing in illustrator.

I think I'll try and finish it out this weekend and post.

Core 77 Feature

So tonight I was just sitting online and Zarni messaged me and told me I was feature on Core77's home page today, hells yeah! Glad he caught it because I rarely check into my Coroflot and almost never stop by Core77. Because most of you wont read this tonight I grabbed a screen cap...should this go into my portfolio?

Tattoo Concepts

I haven't posted it here but people at my work have seen some of my concept sketched for my tattoo.... I think #3 might be the final one. It's a merge of a few concepts liked by both Linda and I :) Number 2 is getting into the invader zim territory so I'm not really digging it.

The critera...
- Robot
- Tell a story of my life (personal sorry people!)
- Oddly enough it had to be cute or playful
- Highly graphic

Long Time Coming

Today's meeting was uber boring. Recently we've been very busy so I haven't had time to sketch during our meetings since I actually had to work O_O

MITW Completed!

Finally I am finished! Well, until the client makes a change ;) But seriously she really liked it so hopefully Linda will lay the text out for me and we'll be completed. I'm actually really happy with this one I think it improved lots since last year.

Also, the festival people talked about maybe making t-shirts with my little ent on them so that will be cool. I want so badly to sew up some plushies and sell them at the festival but I already have so much on my plate. Work is fucking nuts with 17 new toys I'm responsible for designing and or managing out, I've started a second secret blog (if you're interested private message me), I still need to finish Bernie's poster, I just moved into a new apartment this past weekend and I need to find some time to repair/clean the old one, I've only lost about 8lb of my 30lb goal, trying to play more guitar, and I'm less than 1/2 a year away from getting married. Fuck me.

Anyways, how's life for all of you my five readers?Good that's awesome! In light of the festival I shall share with you my other, other, blog, well vlog?

I suppose this one isn't so secret but here I am, efmuok, being an emo fuck. (Now my handle is exposed!) But I don't play in front of people anymore...well not without my web cam so you won't find me playing at the festival only watching:) ciao people!

Sunflower Girl

So I actually did this digital painting as a gift for Linda's folks. I'm pretty sure it's not their style but Linda liked it and it'll be hanging in her room in Taiwan, hahaha.

I actually really like this painting even though the girls ear is way low...need to go back and fix that. Lets be honest though, I probably never will because I'll move forward onto a new piece. Maybe that Wicked fanart in my brain? Anyways, I went from sketch to painting in one night before we flew out to Taiwan so I'm happy for it being a speed piece.

Plus it looks good on my wall as well!

MITW Update

Whadup? So I have a quick post tonight on the Music in the Woods poster. I waited a week or so for some feedback on my thumbnails...and heard nothing, so I went ahead and started on concept number 6. It was one of my favorites and was well received. So I started painting it and of course when I was like 50% finished I find out that they like concept 3! WTF?! Well here's my progress so far and i think i will do both 3 and 6 because I like where 6 is going and I think it'll be a better poster!

Music in the Woods

Yes, yes I know it's been a long long time since I've posted. I'm sure all 5 of you that might be following my blog are probably dying to know "Jeff what have you been up to?" Well things have actually been busy.

Being that I'm engaged, this winter break I took my second vacation to Taiwan to put in some face time with the future in laws but more importantly RELAX. Fuck I was seriously stressed out at work and a little depressed. I'm much better now :)

Where's whitie?

Also I was e-mailed to build a website again this year for a Harvard law school club since they like what we (Linda, Ming, and I) did last year. So that's some extra cash I will need for sure to filter into the wedding...or maybe some tattoos. But no, mostly likely to pay down my credit card after that ring O_O shit's expensive!

Finally, I'm trying to lose about...30lbs for the wedding. I was doing pretty good before the Taiwan trip, I had lost 9lbs but I need to get back into my routine. Jon that means I can't eat all that fast food then falling asleep on my sofa.

Now onto what this post is about sans my boring introduction...

The Music in the Woods! Lets see, how to explain this? Linda's studio manager is friends with the person that runs the solar music festival in Greenville SC; Music in the Woods. Last year they held a design competition at Linda's work for the graphic designers to design the poster. I entered with Linda even though I'm not technically employed there and like a couple of assholes we won...haha but this year the festival organizers would like to use my little tree ent guy as the "mascot" for the festival so I'm doing the poster again. Here's my process thus far and I'll make sure to post as it progresses.

So I began with a bunch of quick thumbnails...Then chose my favorites and sent them over to Linda to check out. After that we both agreed that 3, 6, and 9 were the strongest to pursuit.

Thumbnails

The difficult thing is that they want to list all the bands...last year there was about 15 or so. The list must also be editable in a PDF format by someone who isn't a graphic designer. Basically they want the bands in a very simple column and then a map with directions...

Last years poster

So from there I took concepts 3,6,and 9 and whipped up some cleaner digital sketches to send off to the MITW people to review. I personally love 9 because I have in my head how I want to paint the sky...but 6 is my second favorite! 3 is just an update to last years poster.

Hope you all enjoyed and check back because I plan on updating more often. We've started our wedding planning and I'll probably post up some stuff.
